At Melbourne Antique Clocks, every clock is first completely stripped down to its barest components and every part meticulously cleaned in our ultrasonic cleaners. If it has been serviced within the last 7 years, the clock may only require a minor service; where a clock has been badly over-oiled for many years, a complete service may be necessary.
Work only commences once every part has been cleaned and closely examined, often with a microscope, for damage and wear. Pivots are burnished by a Swiss Hauser machine and restored to the clock's original mirror finish, then carefully reassembled and oiled with the highest quality Swiss Mobius clock oils — five different types, as each wheel has a different type of wear.
The clock is put “in beat” and the timing process starts, synchronised with electronic timing machines. A full bench test for a minimum of two weeks ensures the clock is chiming, striking and keeping perfect time before it's returned to you.
